Do you provide services for anyone looking for a job?
We serve individuals with a diagnosed developmental disability who are referred to us by Kern Regional Center (KRC), and do not provide services for the general public.
What do you look for in a participant?
Our program is best suited for individuals that are motivated, have a willingness to learn, are hardworking, and work well with others.
What are the program hours?
We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00-4:00, but many of our participants do not attend the program every day. We work with participants, parents/guardians, and transportation services to find a weekly schedule suitable for the individual.
How do I enroll at New Options?
All participants are referred by Kern Regional Center. If you are interested in our program, you can contact our Program Coordinator for more information.
What is the 40-Hour Assessment?
Think of this as a trial period! This assessment is spread across numerous days and helps us get to know the incoming client's background, personal information, main motivations, likes, dislikes, hobbies, habits, and strengths, and allows us to better understand if our program is right for them.
What are some of the qualifications for participants?
Participants must be at least 18 years of age with no severe behavioral problems. Keep in mind that our staff cannot provide restroom or feeding assistance.
What if a participant is nonverbal?
As long as the individual has an adequate means of communication and they meet all other qualifications, we welcome participants with all levels of verbal communication.
Do you provide transportation?
No we do not provide transportation, but KRC can connect you with a transportation service provider. Contact your KRC service coordinator for information.
What is the application/acceptance process?
First, we want you to see what we do! Call our office at (661)379-6777 to schedule a walkthrough of our facilities. If you’d like to apply, you will need to contact your KRC service coordinator, who will send us your referral packet. Once the referral packet is reviewed and approved by our Program Coordinator, KRC will need to authorize a 40-hour assessment. Following this assessment, if it’s a good fit, the participant can attend the program as referred by the KRC service coordinator.
